List of (movie/video game) sequels that are superior to the original (in no order)

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles
  • Kung Fu Panda 2 (the original is a masterpiece, yet somehow, Mung Fu Panda could actually expand what made the original a masterpiece to new heights!!!!)
  • The Bride of Frankenstein
  • Mega Man 9-11
  • Pac-Man World 2 (home console version)
  • Peter Pan II: Return to Never Land
  • The Rescuers Down Under (was there any doubt?! Unlike the original, while it is a guilty pleasure, its sequel does not get all of the credit it deserves. I mean, it does by some people like ElectricDragon505, PhantomStrider and Jambareeqi, sigh… and yes, even Doug Walker of Channel Awesome, or at least he used to before he got so terrible that the video “Why Most Still Like AVGN and Hate Nostalgia Critic” by Just Stop explained why he’s overpraised in a nutshell. But unfortunately, like other great films, it also gets a mixed-at-best reputation by Schaffrillas Productions, Thiti2000, Lamborghini Cars, Seth White, or, as everyone would like to call him, “Wikia’s Worst Nightmare” while he calls himself “Wikia’s Greatest Angel”, and et cetera et cetera)
  • Mega Man 2-5
  • Batman: The Dark Knight
  • Super Ghouls N’ Ghosts
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl
  • Super Metroid
  • The Little Mermaid III: Ariel’s Beginning
  • Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Tony Hawk’s Underground
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier/Civil War (I actually love The First Avenger, including its post-credits trailer for MCU’s The Avengers, so as someone who doesn’t always go by “popular opinion”, maybe I’m just trying to expand the list a bit more)
  • Thor: Ragnarok (also by Marvel Cinematic Universe)
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Toy Story 2 (the original Toy Story 1 is a great film because of its high level of meaningfulness and non-cliched setup, but its only nitpicks are that Bo Peep is a token female character and especially that like I said before, while its animation is very strong for what is widely regarded as the oldest CGI feature film made in the mid-1990s, it also has 3D character rendering that makes characters look plastic albeit in a different way than Kim K. Toy Story 2, however, did the impossible, which is improve upon the elements of its sole predecessor that made it a testament to what made Pixar a powerhouse of why animation should be treated as an art form. But Toy Story 2’s biggest improvement from the original is unquestionably its CGI animation that while it was made in the late 1990s, it actually manages to make the film look like it was made during the same time as Pixar’s other magnum opuses in a row, made between Cars 1 & 2).
  • Modern The Fast and the Furious (Fast 4 to Hobbs & Shaw)
  • Superman II
  • Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
  • Tinker Bell: Legend of the Neverbeast
  • The Godfather: Part II
  • The Good: The Bad and the Ugly (this may not sound shocking since practically everyone seems to hail it as a masterpiece, but even as a Western genre fan, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly is so amazing it might as well also be called “The Good, The Bad and the Godly”)
  • Team Fortress 2
